Our Philosophy
Ever seen those advertisements that offer the chance to earns £000’s working from home? Give up the day job, break free from the rat race and start living your life the way you want to?
Sound too good to be true, heard it all before?
We can’t comment on all of those advertisements, but what we do know is this:
It is possible to earn a substantial income from playing poker, either on-line or in a live environment. This is the reason why:
Over 90% of people that play poker (and indeed gamble generally) lose money.
Don’t be alarmed by this statistic! Its actually good news because it means that there is a huge income pool out there waiting to be tapped into.
But why do so many people lose?
To put it simply, the majority of players do not know what they are doing. Yes, they may know the rules, but that does not make them a good player. Just because they know how to play doesn’t mean they can play.
The keys to successful poker are:
- Sound strategy
Strategy covers a whole range of topics but suffice to say, most people play without a plan. Or if they have a plan, for many different reasons, they don’t stick to it.
- Control of emotions and discipline
The problem with poker and other forms of gambling is that ego gets in the way. We are only human. Nobody likes to lose, especially were money is concerned. Our first thought when we lose money is how quickly can we get it back and despite our best intentions we become emotionally involved. Playing the emotions instead of the odds almost always leads to losses.
- Luck
No matter what anybody tells you, poker is a game of skill and chance. Therefore to win, you sometimes need a bit of luck.
But it's not all about luck. Good players will on average lose less with poor cards and win more with good cards. The best players will make the most money in the long run because luck always evens out if you play long enough. This isn't merely our opinion; it's a mathematical certainty.
So there you have it; you now know the key areas that you need to develop to become a good poker player.
At Apprentice Poker our goal is not to turn you into the best player in the world; you don’t need to be the best in the world to make money.
To make money you just need to be better than the players sitting around you at the table.
The majority of these players will not have studied the game or learnt the necessary skills required to make a good poker player.
At Apprentice Poker we will teach you those skills.
Congratulations!
For you to even be reading some of these points puts you in the well-informed minority.
